The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), on December 13, 2023 announced an extension of the deadline for free update of Aadhaar documents by another three months to March 14, 2024. The free update facility was previously set to end on December 14, 2023, but was extended following demands from residents.

“Based on the positive response from residents, it has been decided to extend the facility for three more months. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost through the myAadhaar portal,” UIDAI said in a message.

Thus, the provision of free update of demographic details through the myAadhaar portal will continue till March 14, 2024 now. However, you could also get the same updated through physical Aadhaar centres by paying a fee of Rs 50. Among the details that can be updated through the myAAadhaar portal are name, address, and details of relatives in case of marriage or death.

To upload a photo and for iris and biometric update, one has to physically visit the Aadhaar centres. Residents have to provide all biometrics for updates when the child reaches 15 years of age.

It should also be noted that to use the myAadhar portal, one needs to have one’s mobile number (in current use) linked to one’s Aadhaar. If one wants to update the mobile number, one has to visit a permanent enrolment centre for the same.

How To Update Aadhaar Details Using myAadhaar Portal?

To update your details using the myAadhaar Portal, here are the steps you need to follow.

1] Log into the myAadhaar portal using the Aadhaar number and select the ‘Aadhaar update’ option.

2] You will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.

3] Click on ‘Document Update’.

4] Select the ‘Proof of Identity’ and the ‘Address’ documents you wish to submit.

5] Upload a scanned copy of the documents and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

6] A 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) will be generated. Keep a note of the number for reference.

Typically, it will take about 30 days for the details to be updated on your Aadhaar.
