Listed below is a policy comparison between three personal accident insurance plans that not only cover traditional accidental disability or death coverage but also address the aftermath and associated costs comprehensively.

1. Reliance Personal Accident 360Shield

Reliance General Insurance has launched a new personal accident insurance policy ‘Reliance Personal Accident 360Shield’ for overall coverage across all significant aspects of impact.

Coverage Range: The plan provides coverage options ranging from Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 25 crore. It also extends coverage for trauma counselling (up to Rs 10,000 per session) and reconstructive surgery (up to Rs 10 lakhs).

The policy provides coverage for:

- Permanent/Temporary Total Disablement (PTD/TTD/PPD): In the case of Permanent Total Disablement (PTD), coverage extends to 2x the base sum insured, and for Permanent Partial Disablement (PPD), it offers coverage of 1x the base sum insured. Additionally, Temporary Total Disablement (TTD) coverage is provided up to ₹1 lakh, ensuring a steady income during recovery periods of up to 104 weeks.

- Accidental Hospitalisation: Under this, the plan extends comprehensive coverage for inpatient treatment, day care procedures, domestic road ambulance, and pre-and post-hospitalisation expenses, up to Rs 20 lakhs over and above the PA sum insured.

- Worldwide cover: The plan provides overseas travel coverage, including up to Rs 1 lakh for compassionate visits, and up to Rs 25 thousand each for trip cancellation, event cancellation, and extended hotel stays.

- Adventure Sports Coverage: The plan covers up to 100 per cent of the base Sum Insured (SI), subject to a maximum of Rs 1 crore plus earned cumulative bonus. It includes popular adventure sports activities such as bungee jumping, scuba diving, and trekking (among the other 40 listed sports) all under professional supervision.

Eligibility: Adults from 18 to 80 years of age can opt for the plan with no exit age bracket.

Dependent children (30 days to 25 years of age) will be included in the insurance plan.

Policy Cancellation

Customers can cancel this policy by giving 15 days written notice. The insurer will refund the premium for the unexpired Policy Year as per the scale detailed in the Policy Wording, subject to a minimum cancellation fee of Rs 100.

2. ManipalCigna Health Insurance Plan

Last year, ManipalCigna Health Insurance launched a new personal accident plan that provides comprehensive coverage for AD, PTD, PPD, and accidental hospitalisation.

Coverage Range: The customers can choose the sum insured coverage ranging from Rs 5 lakh and Rs 25 crore. The insured will get paid 100 per cent sum insured in case of accidental death or permanent total disability, and 200 per cent sum insured, if these occur while traveling as a fare-paying passenger on a common carrier.

The plan also covers the cost of repatriation of the insurer back to India in case a medical emergency occurs abroad.

The coverage depends on the specific plan one chooses under the policy which comes under three variants:

- Classic Plan: This covers accidental death, funeral expenses, and repatriation of mortal remains. Customers can also upgrade it with 10 optional covers.

- Plus Plan: This includes all the benefits of the basic plan in addition to the coverage for Permanent Total Disability and 10 optional covers. This includes injury due to Accidents leading to Burns, Air Ambulance service, EMI cover, etc.

- Pro Plan: The ultimate plan with coverage for PPD as a base, extends 12 optional covers such as Coma benefits, Broken Bones benefits, etc.

Adventure Activities Cover: Under its ‘pro plan’ the policy provides coverage for AD and PTD sustained while engaging in listed adventure sports, such as scuba diving, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. The customer can get paid 50 per cent of the sum insured, up to a maximum of Rs. 50 Lakh.

Education Benefit: The policy extends 10 per cent of the Sum Insured, subject to a maximum of Rs 20 lakh (irrespective of number of dependent children) up to age 25 years, even if not insured in the policy.

3. Aditya Birla Activ Secure Plan

Aditya Birla Activ Secure personal accident health insurance plan provides various coverage options for the customers depending on the plan.

Cover Range: The customers can choose between five different base plans with a base sum insured ranging from Rs 5 lakh to 20 crore.

It provides 100 per cent coverage for permanent disabilities due to accidents and also on AD. It extends income cover during TTD due to accidents in addition to loans, EMI and ambulance coverage.

Funeral Expenses: If the insured dies due to an accident, the plan will cover 1 per cent of the sum insured up to Rs 50,000 for the funeral expenses.

Education Benefits: 10 per cent of the sum insured up to Rs 10 Lakh.

Compassionate Visit: The plan covers Domestic visits up to Rs 10,000 and international up to Rs 25,000.

Adventure Sports: The plan extends a lump sum payment of up to Rs. 10 lakhs for any adventure sports accident that results in the insured’s death or TPD.

The also provides worldwide emergency assistance care including emergency medical evacuation, air ambulance, and medical repatriation.
