After Cyclone Michaung wreaked havoc across Tamil Nadu, people may be left vulnerable to health risks, and the spotlight is now on accessible healthcare. Seventeen people died in Chennai due to rain-related incidents and over one lakh people took refuge in relief camps and budget hotels. With significant population displacement comes the risk of infections. Also, proper coverage through home and motor insurance policies, with particular add-ons, is very helpful in ensuring comprehensive protection from such natural calamities.

But as the old saying goes, health is the real wealth. Water-logging after the flood leads to waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis A. Standing water caused by heavy rainfall or overflow of rivers will be a breeding site for mosquitoes, increasing exposure to infections such as dengue, malaria, etc.

CMCHIS or Chief Minister's Health Insurance

Tamil Nadu Government's Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) is a popular family floater government health insurance scheme in the state. Centre's ambitious health insurance project Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has been integrated with CMCHIS, and the scheme is called PMJAY-CMCHIS.

Tamil Nadu residents who can get an income certificate from the revenue authorities showing their family income below Rs 1,20,000, can enroll in the scheme to avail cashless healthcare facilities in network hospitals. The health plan covers your hospitalization costs, but only for medical procedures allowed under the Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. For a premium of Rs 849 per family per annum, a sum insured of Rs 5 lakh is available to each family per policy year.

Diagnostic tests, and follow-up treatments, are also covered under the scheme. 1090 procedures, 8 follow-up procedures and 52 diagnostic procedures are covered under CMCHIS in 800 Government and 900 Private empaneled hospitals.

How To Apply?
