Yuva Nidhi scheme, a flagship government scheme of the Government of Karnataka that provides unemployment allowance to educated unemployed youth of the state completes five months today. The scheme was launched on January 12, 2024, to provide unemployment allowance to students who have graduated starting from AY 2022-23.

The scheme offers financial aid to unemployed graduates and diploma holders if they don't get a job even after 6 months from graduation. Still, allowance is allowed only for a maximum of two years. Further vocational training and upskilling will also be provided to these candidates who have registered for this scheme through the Skill Development Department. As many as 1.32 lakh students had already registered under the Yuva Nidhi scheme by February 21, 2024.

Benefits & Eligibility of the Yuva Nidhi Scheme

Yuva Nidhi Scheme extends Rs 3,000 per month to degree holders and Rs 1,500 per month to diploma holders who could not secure a job after six months from graduation. They should also not be pursuing higher studies. The aid will only be paid for two years and to registrants whose domicile is Karnataka.

The unemployment allowance will continue to be disbursed each month till the applicant gets a job, or for a maximum of two years whichever occurs first. Those receiving Apprentice wages are not eligible. Even those self-employed by taking loans from banks and under various state and central schemes are not eligible.

The academic documents available on the NAD portal are used to determine the eligibility of the applicants for the scheme by verifying if they had completed graduation within the stipulated period.

How to apply for the Yuva Nidhi Scheme

The allowance will be directly disbursed to the beneficiary bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

Beneficiaries can apply for the scheme on the Seva Sindhu portal at (sevasindhuservices.karnataka.gov.in)

The Degree Certificate or Diploma Certificate, candidate's Aadhaar Card, Bank passbook photo, Caste and Income Certificate and Residence Certificate should be uploaded on the portal to register in the scheme.

Further beneficiaries should continue to provide a monthly self-declaration regarding the status of their employment to continue to avail Yuva Nidhi benefits. If any discrepancy is found in the status provided by the applicant, penalties will be applicable, the government guidelines say.
