Britain's First Lady Akshata Murthy's wealth is expected to grow by around Rs 138 crore in 2023, after IT firm Infosys announced its second quarter results for the financial year 2023-24.
Akshata Murthy, whose husband Rishi Sunak is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, holds 3,89,57,096 shares of Infosys as a promoter of the company. These Infosys shares are 1.05 per cent of the total paid up capital of the firm.
According to a Mint analysis, due to Infosys' announcement of a dividend of Rs 18 per share, Akshata Murthy's net worth has increased by Rs 70,12,27,728 (Rs18 x 70,12,27,728), or approximately Rs 70 crore.
Following the release of Q1 2023 results, Infosys announced an impromptu dividend of Rs 17.50 per share. On June 2, 2023, Infosys shares went ex-dividend in anticipation of paying its eligible shareholders an interim dividend of Rs 17.50.
As a result of the Infosys dividend declaration, Akshata Murthy saw an increase in net worth of around Rs 68 crore in June 2023.
Thus, the UK PM's wife, Akshata Murthy, has seen an increase in net worth of almost Rs 138 crore (70 crore + 68 crore) as a result of the Infosys dividend.
Murthy will however only be eligible for the Rs 18 share interim dividend if she continues to be shareholder of the same amount of shares until 25 October 2023, the record date for the Infosys dividend.
Akshata Murthy is the daughter of Infosys' billionaire co-founder and former CEO NR Narayana Murthy and celebrated author Sudha Murthy.
