Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd has appointed a new head to administer the hiring of temporary workers amid an ongoing internal investigation into the bribes-for-jobs scandal. Last week, the Tata Group company sacked at least 15 executives and blacklisted eight staffing firms after reports of an alleged hiring scandal.
TCS has named Sivakumar Viswanathan, a veteran of nearly 30 years, as the new head of the Resource Management Group (RMG), reported Live Mint. RMG manages the hiring of contract workers and internally deploys people to projects at TCS.
Chennai-based Viswanathan is a trusted executive of new CEO K Krithivasan.
ES Chakravarthy, the former head of the RMG has been sent on leave after a whistleblower alleged unethical practices at the recruitment of contract workers, in an email sent to the CEO and the chief operating officer. Many senior executives had been taking commissions from staffing firms for years, it claimed.
TCS, India’s largest IT services company, has fired 15 executives from the RMG division in the United States, Canada and India as it looks to eliminate people who took commissions from staffing firms and compromised the recruitment process, according to the report by LiveMint.
The country’s largest private sector employer is also conducting a detailed audit of all the staffing vendors it works with. It has also asked its recruitment team that hires temporary workers to share details of all contract workers, as per the report.
“All their procurement and RMG teams across geographies have been asked to file reports of every hire over the last 2-3 years and mention which division and vendor have sourced them and at what price," reported Mint quoting an industry executive aware of the development.
On Friday, TCS acknowledged in a statement to the exchanges that certain employees and vendors providing contractors" had breached the code of conduct.
