In the season of mass layoffs when several companies are engaged in axing workers, Uber may have become a sight of relief. As per media reports, the company’s Chief Executive (CEO) Dara Khosrowshahi has confirmed that as of now, no Uber layoffs are on the cards.

As per a Reuters report, Uber CEO Khosrowshahi wrote in a company memo about its tougher stance, saying, “Landed a bit like a lead balloon initially.” It added that as of now, no Uber layoffs are expected and the company has worked hard for many months now to cut costs.

The news of no Uber layoffs comes a time when its direct competitor Ola reportedly laid off several employees, calling it a ‘restructuring exercise.’ Additionally, not just these companies but several other companies, across sectors have laid off workers in the view of a global economic downturn.

It must also be noted that while several companies have laid off people in the very beginning of 2023, this isn’t a new case. In the latter half of 2022 itself, several companies started laying off employees in an effort to reduce costs.

While several media reports suggest that the mass layoffs trend caught fire with Twitter layoffs, one must also remember that it slowly did spread to other companies as well, including Amazon, Facebook parent Meta and so on.

Before the CEO’s official confirmation, the Uber layoffs news was somewhat speculated as well because several small and large companies were either shutting their offices or cutting salaries, or simply handing over pink slips.
