The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly registered a case against the BBC India for alleged violations of foreign exchange. As per reports, the development has come weeks after BBC India offices were surveyed by officials for alleged tax evasions.

According to a report in the Economic Times, the ED has booked BBC under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA). It has also called for documents and the recording of statements by some company executives.

As far as the complaint goes, some media reports suggest that the ED booked BBC India about two weeks back and since then, the investigation has been on.

It must be noted that BBC India is not the only organisation that has been pulled up for forex irregularities. Even before, tax authorities have issued show cause notices to many companies, raising questions on their source and valuation of investments.

The flagship BBC is also in news due to a tussle with Twitter and for its recent interview with SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk over Twitter layoffs and several other things. The media house got labelled as ‘government-funded media’ by Twitter, sparking another controversy recently.
