The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a fresh batch of 400,000 tickets for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 after discussions with hosting state associations. The tickets will go on sale from Friday on the tournament's official website.
The move is said to ensure as much participation of the cricket fans as possible.
“Cricket enthusiasts from around the world can now secure their seats to witness the cricketing extravaganza of the year. Fans are encouraged to act promptly to secure their tickets, as tickets are expected to be in high demand, given the immense global interest in the event,” said BCCI.
Thousands of fans were disappointed when tickets for all India scheduled matches were sold out within minutes immediately after going on sale on the online BookMyShow platform. Several of these fans took their disappointment to social media, which seems to have got acknowledged by the domestic cricket board.
“BCCI acknowledges the high demand for tickets for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023,” BCCI noted.
As of now, all tickets for India matches are sold out, according to BookMyShow. Consequently, tickets for the games are selling at abnormal prices in the secondary market. They are being offered at a price as high as Rs 56 lakh on Viagogom, a website which claims to be the “world’s largest source of live entertainment tickets.”
It was in 2011 when India jointly hosted the World Cup with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, where it emerged victorious after a gap of 28 years from its first victory.
