Opening Bell: Sensex opens 266 points down, Nifty below 20,150

Indian benchmark indices opened lower on 18 September with Sensex down 266 points. The BSE Sensex fell 266.36 points or 0.39 per cent to 67,572.27. The NSE Nifty slipped 67.40 points or 0.33 per cent to 20,124.90.

Infosys, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and HDFC Bank were the top losers, while Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, NTPC, Asian Paints and IndusInd Bank were among the top gainers on the BSE.

Vodafone Idea Shares Fell Nearly 5% After Denying Takeover Talks Reports

Shares of Vodafone Idea are trading 4.70 per cent down at Rs 11.15 on the NSE on Monday after the company denied that it is in talks with US-based companies like Verizon, Amazon or for a potential takeover.

"We wish to submit that the said news item is incorrect. The company is not in any such discussion with any of the named parties," the company said in an exchange filing.
