Help build self-belief: Despite the veneer of confidence at senior levels, women are far more timorous and timid than they need to be. One must constantly help them reaffirm that the role they hold is because of their talent and skills, not luck or serendipity. This will encourage women to believe in themselves and their capabilities.
Appreciate and encourage: Centuries of social injustice has generated a desire among women to feel needed. Hence, it is difficult for many to come out of their comfort zone. Appreciating their efforts when they challenge norms will allow them to open up and tap into their growth potential.
Concentrate on strengths: Most women are hyper critical about themselves and they concentrate more on their weaknesses rather than work on their strengths. With positive feedback and open communication, they can identify and understand their unique strengths. Once they do that, they can hone those skills and prepare to take on leadership roles.
Raise expectations: Organisations fall into a paternalistic trap of giving the softer and easier jobs to women in a bid to protect them. This weakens their ability and ends up being self-defeating to the cause of women empowerment. When you expect more, women will be challenged to rise up to the occasion. Organisations that have high expectations out of women help them become better.
