LightFury Games, a gaming start-up by Karan Shroff, has raised $8.5 million in a funding round. The round was led by Blume Ventures, Gemba Capital, and Mixi. The round also saw the participation of other investors, including Kunal Shah’s Cred and Gaurav Munjal’s Unacademy.

Before starting LightFury Games, Sharoff was the partner and chief marketing officer of Unacademy. Taking to X, Sharoff said, “At LightFury Games, we are incredibly excited to utilize these funds to develop high-quality AAA titles that will put #India on the global gaming map.”

AAA games are high-budget video games with good-quality graphics that are developed by major companies. God of War, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us, and others.

Apart from this, the company also aims to establish two state-of-the-art gaming studios in India and London. “Our goal is to become the Tencent of India, and to achieve this, we will establish two state-of-the-art gaming studios. The first studio will be located in Bangalore, while the second one will be based in London,” said Shroff.

The company was co-founded by Karan Shroff, Anurag Banerjee, and Tina Balachandran. Banerjee is currently the gaming and technology officer of the company. While Balachandran is the Chief People and Operations Officer, previously she worked as the Senior VP at Unacademy.

LightFury Games is pretty new. The company was launched in April of this year. Shroff took to LinkedIn to say, “I am thrilled to announce my next venture, LightFury Games; we will be building high-quality, cutting-edge AAA game titles out of India.” There have been a steady number of gaming start-ups in India. As of February, the country had 1,545 gaming start-ups, including Nazara, Hike, Rooter, WinZO, and Moonfrog Labs, as per Tracxn.
