Opportunity Card, also natively called as “Chancenkarte” is a new visa system for candidates from non-EU countries who want to visit Germany to look for a suitable job there.

The strategy behind this card is to permit work pass visas to skilled workers, particularly in the growing sectors like healthcare and IT.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying must have finished at least two years of vocational training and need to be proficient in either German or English language(s). They must also have enough funds and income from a part-time job.

One must also check other criteria before applying. These include Increased Flexibility For Skilled Professionals, Foreign Qualifications for those applying and Requirements for Accompanying Family Members.

Points System Of The Card

Four points are given for partial recognition of a foreign professional qualification or for a permit to practise work such as teaching, nursing or engineering. Three points are given for 5 years of professional experience.

Two points are given for two years of professional experience preceded by vocational training in the last five years. One point is awarded to candidates who are under 40 and also for a previous stay in Germany (no less than six months). One point is also be extended for proficiency in English (C1), and knowledge of German language (A2).
